A jump rope? I thought it was a children’s toy. Those were my first associations with this training tool. In a CrossFit class I was surprised when the coach handed me one. It was a bit different from what I remembered from childhood: metal bearings, a steel cable, a counter. After the workout I realized how powerful and effective it is. Today I know much more about it and can recommend it to everyone.

Jump-rope training itself is very simple. You only need a little space and that’s basically it. It can be a great alternative to running when, for example, it’s raining outside. You can easily do a very strong interval or cardio workout at home. And most importantly—jumping is child’s play. At first it may be hard to coordinate your hands and feet, but progress comes quickly and after a few tries everyone can do it. In the beginning take it slow and calm, ideally in front of a mirror. Over time you’ll start doing increasingly complex variations—single-leg jumps or crossovers.
